VonMises is a pseudonymous digital-art collector who says he studied economics, worked in financial markets, and became interested in Bitcoin after reading about it in April 2011.1 He traces his collecting background to coins, sports cards, and watches, and says CryptoPunks appealed because they combined trading, collecting, and crypto.1 The handle references economist Ludwig von Mises and the collector’s interest in Austrian economics.1 He describes himself as a completionist who applies relative-value thinking but also buys for personal enjoyment, with a stated goal of assembling early, historically significant, culturally relevant digital art.1 He was active in the early CryptoPunks Discord and later served as an early member and curator of the Art Blocks curation board.1
VonMises has written that on first seeing XCOPY’s “lockup”, “I knew I had to have some of his art.”2 Quoting a Gondi post marking the seventh anniversary of the 2018 KnownOrigin release of The Doomed, VonMises wrote in October 2025: “This was my first XCOPY purchase back in May 2020. I paid .1 eth for mine, about $30 at the time!”3
