Alex Shell is the digital artist Alexander Shelupinin, interviewed by CNN in 2021.1 In a 2021 interview, he said he began making crypto art after building an Ethereum mining rig and seeking another use for its computing capacity following the 2018 market decline.1 He generated abstract and humorous images through Python, then joined KnownOrigin in early 2019.1 CNN described “Little Alien” as his shape-shifting, colour-changing portrait of a Sphynx cat; Shell characterised digital art as a low-pressure, playful part of his life.1
Shell remained active on the platform: on 20 November 2023, KnownOrigin named @art_alex_shell among its weekly ‘Trending Creators’, and the artist reposted the list with the comment ‘trending again at @KnownOrigin_io’.2
