Reinhard Schmid is a German visual artist, born in Weiden in 1960, whose practice since the mid-1980s has combined reverse-glass painting, pencil, watercolor, oil painting and digital work.1 His CV says he learned reverse-glass painting from his father, artist Rudolf Schmid, worked with Jaro Art Galleries in New York during the early 1990s, and developed Viechtach’s monumental Gewölbe der Geheimnisse tarot project from 1993 to 2013.1 He has made digital and NFT-based art since 2018; his Venusmaschine concept explores tensions between beauty and control, sensuality and mechanics.1 Viechtach’s municipal website lists his gallery and describes Venusmaschine as an installation developed in a former seventeenth-century inn.2
